Statutory Pay increases

At the end of 2017, the government announced increases to certain rates of statutory pay.

From April 2018 (date to be confirmed) the following rates will take effect:

  • Statutory maternity, paternity, adoption, shared parental pay and maternity allowance to increase to £145.18 per week (currently £140.98 per week).
  • Statutory sick pay to increase to £92.05 per week (currently £89.35 per week).

The changes usually occur on the first Sunday of April, which in 2018 is 1 April.

Each year the Low Pay Commission reviews the hourly rates for national minimum wage and makes recommendations to government in October.

The Commission’s recommendations have been accepted and from 1 April 2018 the following minimum hourly rates will be payable:

  • Apprentices: £3.70 (currently £3.50)
  • 16-17 year olds: £4.20 (currently £4.05)
  • 18-20 year olds: £5.90 (currently £5.60)
  • 21-24 year olds: £7.38 (currently £7.05)
  • 25 years plus (National Living wage): £7.83 (currently £7.50)
