SAR Wars! (GDPR versus HR) – Masterclass 19 September 2019

Collingwood Legal is hosting a half-day SAR Wars! Masterclass on Thursday 19 September 2019 at Kingston Park Stadium.

During the session we will assess:

  • the impact of the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR); and
  • the increased use of Subject Access Requests (SAR) on businesses and HR teams dealing with employee personal data when handling grievances, disciplinaries, sickness absences, recruitment and Employment Tribunal litigation.

The careful management of personal data is vital to successfully defending complaints in the Employment Tribunal and complaints made to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO). We will therefore provide you with practical guidance and assistance in these key critical areas of HR data management including:

  • a comprehensive overview of the GDPR;
  • highlighting your duties when receiving and dealing with a SAR;
  • a practical understanding of the implications and legal requirements placed on your organisation from a data management point of view;
  • a focus on the importance of managing responses to SARs; and
  • an insight into how the ICO may handle complaints from a data subject.

The objective of the session is to give HR professionals, managers and data protection officers confidence in complying with the GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018 when collecting, processing and sharing personal data and when dealing with a SAR.

The session is interactive and includes various practical case studies and comprehensive workbook and will be run by our experienced and expert lawyers, Paul Johnstone and Alexandra Besnard.

  • 9.00am – Arrival, breakfast and networking
  • 9:30am – Back to basics: GDPR and the rights of data subjects, focussing on Right of Access and Subject Access Requests.
